The Finnish Institute in London

The mission of the Finnish Institute in London is to promote good relationships between Finland and the United Kingdom and between Finland and the Republic of Ireland in the sciences, arts and education as well as in general cultural fields. To this end, the Institute launches, supports and produces projects related to these fields and also disseminates information on them to target groups.

The goals of the activities of the Finnish Institute in London are to create connections on a high, professional level between Finnish, British and Irish science, art and education experts; to expand the contact surface between Finnish, British and Irish across the board; to promote the status of scientific research that targets Finland and/or that is carried out in Finland and to create interest in it; to showcase current Finnish art and to create interest in it; to increase the mobility of students from the UK and Ireland to Finland and vice versa; to disseminate information to target groups on current Finnish art, scientific research and general cultural activities; to provide information on research, educational and stipend opportunities in Finland and on opportunities to study subjects pertaining to Finland in the UK and Ireland.

The Institute is involved in scientific, artistic and educational projects that promote the networking of Finnish, British and Irish institutions and the kicking off of new creative projects. The Institute carries out the majority of its projects in co-operation with institutions in the host country at those institutions. In particular, the Institute supports young, promising researchers and artists that are not yet well known. For scientific projects, the Institute concentrates on subjects of discussion that are topical across many areas of society. The focal point of the artistic projects is on live Finnish modern arts in all disciplines. The Institute provides information on educational opportunities in Finland and creates networks between Finnish, British and Irish universities. The British Council in Finland, with which the Institute actively communicates, is responsible for providing information on studying in the UK.
