The Institutum Romanum Finlandiae
The Finnish Institute in Rome, Institutum Romanum Finlandiae, was founded in 1954. Its main focus is the teaching and research of humanities. The institute also aims to promote awareness about the cultural heritage of the Classical world and Italy in Finland.
The institute organises courses for Finnish university students, teachers and operators in the field of culture as well as lectures for the general public. International conferences on subjects relating to the operation of the institute are held regularly.
At the institute, research is conducted in the following fields in particular: Roman social and cultural history, Latin and Greek languages and literature, art history, archaeology, Roman topography, and the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Italy. The institute also lends assistance to archaeological excavations.
