Goals

Institutes

The network of Finnish cultural and academic institutes consists of 17 independent institutes working in close cooperation with one another, supported by private foundations. One of the institutes, the Hanasaari Swedish-Finnish Cultural Centre, is located in Finland, while the rest are located outside of Finland. However, the areas of operation of the institutes vary in their extent, ranging from the country in which the institute is located to an entire cultural area.

Goals

The goal of the institutes is to make Finnish art and academia known in the countries where they are located, to establish contacts, to build expert networks and to act as a liaison between people and institutions in Finland and in the countries of their location.

Each institute has adapted its structure and mode of operation to the circumstances in the country where it is located. In spite of their differences, the institutes have common basic premises for their operation, working in cooperation with each other and with local organisations and various Finnish parties.

Meetinsg points for cultures

The Finnish cultural and academic institutes aim to promote cultural interaction by active participation in international cultural and academic work, and to create long-term cooperation, both bilateral and multilateral, within their spheres. The institutes are open meeting places for different cultures.
